Newt Hasson, MD
Orthopedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine Specialist
As one of the expert, board-certified orthopedic surgeons practicing at Orthopedic Associates of Central Texas, Newt Hasson, MD has been providing patient-focused orthopedic care in Austin and Central Texas since 1983. Dr. Hasson specializes in sports medicine, knee arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction, total joint replacements of the knee and hip, as well as general orthopedics.
Dr. Hasson received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University, served his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Stanford University, and did a fellowship in sports medicine at the renowned Hughston Orthopedic Clinic under sports medicine icons Jack Hughston, MD, and James Andrews, MD. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
A former college football and lacrosse player himself, Dr. Hasson is well-recognized in the local athletic/sports injury community. He has been the team physician for Westlake High School for over 33 years and is the first team doctor to ever be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame. For his service to student-athletes, Dr. Hasson has also received the Champions of FCA award, the Contribution to Amateur Football award from the National Football Foundation, and the You Make a Difference in Eanes ISD award.
Dr. Hasson is on the board of directors of the Greater Austin Chapter of the National Football Foundation and previously served on the board of directors of the Texas Special Olympics, in addition to being its medical director.
His wife, Pam, and he have been married for 38 years and are the parents of three adult children.
Dr. Hasson has been named a Texas Super Doctor.
